New Earswick (A) met York (B) in the Yorkshire league Division 2 at home John Harrison, Ken Harrison, Colin Pickup & Bill Waldie after losing the first three ends levelled the scores at five all after eight ends against W. Flavell, A. Hampshire, D. White & Tex Stevens the two sides matched each other over the next seven ends with Earswick leading 11 – 10 after fiteen ends and still anybodies match & with the score at 13 – 12 to Earswick with three ends to go the home team picked up a two & a Five for a 20 – 13 win. Bob Elliot, Dave Kermode, Tony Abbot, & Kevin Liddell after dropping singles at the first three ends of there game against K. Griffith, J. Sandall, D. Clark & Geoff Walker took control of the game & won eleven of the next thirteen ends to lead 19 – 6 the York team then picked up a couple of singles before the home rink scored a three & a five to finish up winning 27 – 9.
Over at Thanet Road Dave Imerson, Dave Elcock, Mick Head & Paul Dawson had a very close and even game against P. Riley, Alan Clapham, Ray Calpin & Malcolm Thompson with neither side score more than a pair at any end apart from the forth end when the Earswick rink scored a three to lead 6 – 2 the York rink then scored five singles to Earswicks one to level the scores at seven all after ten ends the teams were still locked together at eleven all after sixteen ends. York then went into the last end leading by two shots but with Earswick holding three shots for game Mal Thompson the York skip drew second shot to give York a 15 – 14 victory. Colin Ellis, Gary Jones, Ralf Tiplady & Paul Humphreys started the better & led K. Simpson, A. Smith, T.Wilford Mal Bulmer 10 – 6 after eleven ends the York rink won the next three ends to level the game at ten all, both sides score a three to still be level at fourteen all with three ends to go with Earswick picking up three singles for a win 17 – 14 Earswick (A) 78 12pts York (B) 51 2 pts.
The Earswick (B) team took on Doncaster (B) in their Division 3 fixture at home Paul Murray, Steve Hudson, Bob Barett & Brian Gray lost the first three ends to be 0 – 5 down to W. Barnett F.Tyson, G. Kendall & W. Barnett and were still behind 7 – 9 after ten ends but picked up two fours in the next four ends to lead 17 – 10 and had slightly the better of the last seven ends for a 24 - 15 win. Gordon Fratson, Bill Nuckey. Vic Thompson, & Kevin Potter came from 2 – 6 down after five ends to lead R. Gregory 11 – 6 after eight ends & were still just in the lead 14 – 11 after fourteen ends but then stormed ahead winning six of the last seven ends including a four & five for a 30 – 13 win. Over at Doncaster Brian Birch, Brian Hutton, Terry Bellwood & Dick Osguthorpe with the help of a five led Harry Guthridge 15 - 5 after eleven ends the Doncaster rink won the next four ends but the Earswick rink came back again winning four of the last six ends for a 21 – 13 win. Joe Barker, Nigel Steels, Alwyn Anderson & Eric Cookson were always just behind M. Richardson’s rink until consecutive three’ at the fifteenth & sixteenth end gave them a 15 – 13 lead and winning four of the last five ends saw them home 20 shots to 15 New Earswick (B) 95 14pts Doncaster (B) 56 0 pts
New Earswick also took on Doncaster in the Yorkshire Ladies League at home Sandra Hemsley, Moira Ellis, Sally Domville & Norma Davies just could not get started against P. Clark & lost the first ten ends to be 0 – 18 behind and 1 – 20 down after thirteen ends but then scored consecutive fours & a single to go down 10 – 22. The next rink was almost the opposite with Lynn Page, Kay Hutchinson, Annette Prosser, & Majorie Watson only dropping a three at the ninth end to lead E. Hall 23 – 4 after fourteen ends the Doncaster rink scored a couple of two’s & a four at the last four ends for a final 25 – 12 win to Earswick. Over at Doncaster the scoring also matched some of the home games Lesley Nuckey, Sue Adams, Monika Morgan & Irene Warrington dropped two fours & a six to go 4 – 15 down to M. Peckett after just six ends the two teams matched each other over the last twelve ends with Doncaster winning 15 – 25. In the final match the high scoring continued Doramy Bellwood, Gemma Broadhead, Jennie Phipott, & Margaret Morgan dropped consecutive fours to go 2 – 11 down after six ends Earswick replied with a five to be 0nly 9 – 13 down after ten ends but Doncaster pulled away again with a five another four and a three in the last six ends to win 12 – 27 New Earswick Ladies 62 2pts Doncaster 86 pts
