Ospreys V Harrogate & Falcons V York Romans

New Earswick Ospreys entertained league leaders Harrogate in the over 55’s league.
At home Vic Woolley, Dave Booth, Dave Hutchinson & Alwyn Anderson got off to a steady start and led G. Swift’s rink 5 – 4 after six ends but lost the next four ends dropping a seven & a five to go 5 – 17 behind after ten ends not to be out done the home side got a seven back at the thirteenth end and were 17 – 27 behind with five ends to play and in a strong finish won all the last five ends to go down by only two shots 25 – 27.

Dave Counter, Dave Toms, John Taylor & Bob Barrett started by dropping a five at the first end & a four at the fifth end against S. Webster and only picked up six singles themselves to be 6 – 28 behind after seventeen ends they managed to win the last four ends to make the final score 13 - 28.

At Harrogate Gordon Johnson, Pat Inwood, Vic Thompson & Eric Cookson got of to a good start & led R. Legate 12 – 5 after eight ends but Harrogate came back winning five of the next six ends including a six & a four to take a 21 – 15 lead the Earswick rink fought back well winning five of the last seven ends but just failed by two shots losing 24 – 26. Howard Darrell, Bruce Dobson, Alan Price & Kevin Potter only score five singles in the first twelve ends to trail R. Green 5 – 13 after twelve ends they then scored a four but again only picked up one more single at the last seven ends to go down 11 –24

New Earswick Falcons took on the York Romans
On Saturday the New Earswick Falcons took on the York Romans, at Huntington Road Rod Walker, Graham Lockwod, Mick Head & Bill Waldie from being 5 – 1 up after four ends against Gordon Walker fell 6 – 9 behind after eleven ends they then won four of the next five ends to lead 16 – 10 and go on to a 18 – 16 victory.

Bob Elliot, Dave Kermode, Dick Osguthorpe & Ralph Tiplady won eight of the first ten ends to lead M. Snowden 16 – 4 but the York rink fought back winning the next six ends and with the help of a five pulled back to only one shot behind 16 – 15 with five ends to play at this point the Falcons rallied and won the last five ends for a 25 – 15 win.

Over at Thanet Road Dave Imeson, Bill Nuckey, Brian Birch & Barry Johnson were level at four all after five ends and still level at nine all after twelve ends against Alan May but from this point the Romans took over scoring a four & five singles at the next six ends to take them on to a 9 – 18 lead and on to a 13 – 20 win.

In the final match Dave Sykes, Paul Murray, Dave Elcock & Tony Abbot got of to a flier against Ron Munro and with a five & a four led 15 – 1 after seven ends the Romans scored a five at the eleventh end to make the score 18 – 8 the Falcons again replied with two three’s & a six to lead 31 – 11 after sixteen ends and go on to a 32 – 16 win
